Bringing In Some Green

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I showed you a few weeks ago an <a href="http://decoratingcents.blogspot.com/2014/03/hello-spring.html" target="_blank">inspiration board</a> mixing blues and greens. I've decided green is the new accent color I want to bring into my home.  I just love how the two colors play off one another.  Since the loft is already in progress, I will add of touch of green here.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja6U73pHkqIjkrJibdTYrS703YIbX8NL9ggB0ro9I8RhLv8BPjVVzSFIwMFrJ8q25jKolnPHyuYfbtL6D7GUdvQQDd2LhZ61cPD0tPpSlspDt2OShkTLYLKKpNbtiqy7EOrktyCVIRNsw/s1600/candlesticks09.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja6U73pHkqIjkrJibdTYrS703YIbX8NL9ggB0ro9I8RhLv8BPjVVzSFIwMFrJ8q25jKolnPHyuYfbtL6D7GUdvQQDd2LhZ61cPD0tPpSlspDt2OShkTLYLKKpNbtiqy7EOrktyCVIRNsw/s1600/candlesticks09.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Last week I showed you the <a href="http://decoratingcents.blogspot.com/2014/04/tv-gallery-wall.html" target="_blank">gallery wall</a>.  There were some wooden candlesticks on the TV console.  They were brown and they blended in so you could have missed them.  I wanted to pump up the color a bit so I purchased some green spray paint.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWq1oTIevZ5W0rkozlwLrpZ2ZgwdBZgHbULm5amvDN6zREQrlX2Rrz6iSUrItmRl1UUEMTJLgKQPu5PiDENOXCKu6w7tYiT8OCRPLG9CtD5eR8V7jw66tWvG3FsDlDTfZX7w9xJYOQk94/s1600/gallery01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWq1oTIevZ5W0rkozlwLrpZ2ZgwdBZgHbULm5amvDN6zREQrlX2Rrz6iSUrItmRl1UUEMTJLgKQPu5PiDENOXCKu6w7tYiT8OCRPLG9CtD5eR8V7jw66tWvG3FsDlDTfZX7w9xJYOQk94/s1600/gallery01.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now they pop off the console and are a good contrast against the gray wall.  The color is Krylon Ivy Leaf.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2OU16uVAoY50ordl9S0AQa9ZMYRGJ1V0T5_caaYvGv6cdQsHoLGMKTuPDAuhV21gUHWBV3WrOvvU9HG23lEu3nzv6goHClwv1mkYyRXhRz5yYb28SJnB-UmMw5PTuJv_HVowTo9HBi68/s1600/candlesticks02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2OU16uVAoY50ordl9S0AQa9ZMYRGJ1V0T5_caaYvGv6cdQsHoLGMKTuPDAuhV21gUHWBV3WrOvvU9HG23lEu3nzv6goHClwv1mkYyRXhRz5yYb28SJnB-UmMw5PTuJv_HVowTo9HBi68/s1600/candlesticks02.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The left one sits next to an Ikea vase and faux plant. TV Gallery Wall

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The gray accent wall has been painted.  You can see that <a href="http://decoratingcents.blogspot.com/2014/03/wall-mounted-tv-and-hiding-cords.html" target="_blank">here</a>, when I posted about the mounted TV.  We initially chose to go with the same color as our office, Behr Grayve Yard.  I bought a quart and got to work.  I've experienced that paint goes on lighter and dries darker.  As I was painting, I was desperately hoping it would dry much darker but it never did.  The office has all four walls painted and the lighting in the office looks different than the loft area.  I think these two differences made the color appear lighter in the loft.  So we made a decision to go darker.  I looked through my paint swatches and went with Behr Intellectual.  It's a really dark gray and almost looks black in person.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We made another trip to Home Depot.  I still had half the quart of Grayve Yard left and didn't want it to go to waste.  I asked the paint guy to darken it to Intellectual.  Since the bases for the two colors are completely different, our final color is slightly lighter than Intellectual.  Immediately after rolling this on, we knew this was it.  This is the drama we were going for.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now that the gray accent wall has been painted and the TV has been hung, it was time to put up some pictures.  The wall color was so pretty I almost backed out of putting holes in the wall.  I started by laying out my frames on the floor to come up with a layout that I liked.  I had just enough paint to cover this wall so if I mess up, there's no patching one hole and it looking ok.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Even though this space gets a ton of light, it's hard to get a really good picture.  The sun comes in strong from the front windows so a straight on shot is nearly impossible.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUN7jTEFZPT3ctKeCzrwZGYAa7G8UEZW9ifqGlke3f_BPpzcM1vrCaZIHKhGMvxEhSugpX1vASASResk-tyzdXDJuKhFD-QkjkXGcYkeNuWc8twqutGdTIBLs9Hw8YRb_uC8PNCnHgc4c/s1600/gallery03.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I really wanted to use black frames to keep the gallery somewhat cohesive.  Half of the them I already had.  The others I bought from Ikea.  I love how the photos frame the TV.  When the TV is off, it doesn't stand out as much since the pictures are there for you to look at.</span><br /><br /><div Wall Mounted TV and Hiding The Cords

width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We mounted the loft TV on the wall last week.  We knew we didn't want those ugly cords connected to the TV to be seen.  I had done a few searches to see what our options were for hiding them.  Turns out, there are several.  My least favorite was the cord cover and I knew that wasn't going to work for me.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here are the pieces we bought from Home Depot.  They are wall plates that allow you to pull the cords through but keep them hidden in the wall.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKtGhyphenhyphenQwYKsXdZCMd8QSU1rExiZ_PL4EYaySzEO6uEdw4bgPfvd_Mh7eaIMQMm24XyVBs_QbSxjE0hyphenhyphenToXkKobJIcF_YZ7MeTs6Gj5Tf1bbIIWSbAIDxRyvjLcpkDG0-RS0PUc3cNBVQs/s1600/tv+mount02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKtGhyphenhyphenQwYKsXdZCMd8QSU1rExiZ_PL4EYaySzEO6uEdw4bgPfvd_Mh7eaIMQMm24XyVBs_QbSxjE0hyphenhyphenToXkKobJIcF_YZ7MeTs6Gj5Tf1bbIIWSbAIDxRyvjLcpkDG0-RS0PUc3cNBVQs/s1600/tv+mount02.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">After we figured out where we wanted the holes, using the template in the package, we cut a hole right under the TV mount for the cords coming from the TV.  It made me a little nervous cutting a hole in the wall.  The cords also needed a place to exit at the bottom.  We cut the second hole straight down from the top one, right next to the outlet where the cords would be plugged in.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIvbHYd1F9iuoA7ZhHp4xBpO-L-87e3PBvu5ri0PxOVAVPoQ3rSxY-NFH2HcQwjd86PpxDvaIi2VcL4sSDbymY_BmReCRUdZHmKV13W1wEo170VApoRcmw3lIW2ta02pi1dIKcZPJyRFU/s1600/tv+mount03.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">To make it easier to get the dropped cords, we installed the top plate first.  It just goes into the hole and the screws tighten it against the drywall.  We inserted all the cords in the plate and they fell down into the wall.  We grabbed the dropped cords and pulled them through the bottom hole.  Now that the the cords are through the bottom hole, we pulled them through the bottom plate and screwed it in.  The plate has a small opening and is curved which I why I say drop the cords first so you can get your hand through the hole to pull the cords from the wall.  </span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a Upstairs Loft: Plans

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Right at the top of the stairs, we have a loft area.  This area has been empty since we've been here.  It's really been the catchall for things that no longer fit into any other room at the time.  Around Christmas, it looked like a toy store with all the kids' toys all spread out.  We decided it was time to do something with this space.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
