253 Pacific Street by James Cleary Architecture:

“253 Pacific Street is a newly constructed building in Brooklyn, New York containing 3 duplex residences.

While the building’s building, style, and supplies – including zinc, wood, and exposed concrete – are unapologetically modern, James Cleary Architecture’s initial suggestions for the building had been inspired by Brooklyn’s historic brownstones, whose high ceilings, thoughtful apartment layouts, and wonderful depth in the particulars of their facades, all influenced the building’s design.

Inside and out, the constructing mixes higher and low to unexpected effect.

Outside, wood clads the exterior of the entire 1st floor, while on the upper floors, raw concrete piers bracket standing seam zinc cladding. Custom fabricated wood and steel planter boxes frame each window on the upper stories, shading windows from summer season sun, adding a touch of green to the streetscape, and generating wealthy shadows that play across the building all through the day.

Inside, every single apartment functions exposed concrete ceilings and walls, walnut flooring, wood burning fireplaces, private outside space, and big windows that enable sunlight deep into the building.

Every single unit’s kitchen and staircase are developed as an intertwined pair. The kitchens combine smooth lacquered cabinets with rough blackened steel, even though the wood and concrete stairs sweep past freestanding floor to ceiling millwork, making exclusive cross views by way of every single apartment, and possibilities for little ones to perch on the stair, or tuck themselves underneath it, as mom or dad make breakfast.

From its highly effective developing envelope, equipment, lighting and plumbing fixtures, to the use of recycled components wherever attainable, 253 Pacific Street has a minimal environmental footprint made to lessen power use by at least 35% compared to normal construction.”
