Gray Front Door

margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzaC1hjDtSD3FbNwUcMua-wsQkZun0OsKnOU_5I37iZFBXLpXQBGAKmWi7X0ermK2lHvGg6h-7VzlN3z4mwXRbwH4llVcP4xl1BW6nD0dndXMbz-AJWmiDlATEjHPE95BcicOI3s9GxQ8/s1600/front+door07.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I painted the door Saturday afternoon.  After it was painted, it was hard not to walk by and think that the door wasn't open.  It takes a second glance to make sure it is indeed closed.  The dark gray door gives the entry a deep, moodier look.  I thought the space would feel darker but it doesn't, just a deeper contrast between the beige and white.  I used a regular paint brush to apply my paint.  Our door has a wood grain texture to it so I don't have to worry about paint lines.  The paint dries into the lines on the door.  I went with a satin finish.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Foyer Seating

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Forever the space at the bottom of the stairs has been empty.  I have been looking for a nice bench to go there but have never found the perfect one.  Every week I make a few Target runs for diapers and things and I always make a quick dash for the home decor section.  You can probably tell by now Target is one of my favorite stores to visit.  I came across this storage ottoman that I had liked since it first came out.  It was small but I liked the pattern and the colors.</span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On this visit it was marked down to $20.99 from $69.99.  That's 70% off.  I love those little red stickers!  At that price it was meant to go home with me.  I had other things in the cart and the kids were with me so it was tough getting it all to fit.  I originally bought it with the intention of putting it in our loft but it ended up not working there.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">At another Target the next week, I saw they had one of the same ottomans sitting by its lonesome.  It needed a playmate and it was waiting at my house.  I grabbed it up without even thinking twice.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; The space behind the door isn't quite big enough for a bench but I didn't want to put any art work there either.  So I opted to make the wall a focal point when you walk in.  Here is the before. some molding to the wall with some hooks to the hubby.  It could be a place for us to hang bags and jackets.  We have several closets downstairs but wanted something a little closer for guests.  He agreed with no hesitation so I jumped right on planning it out before he changed his mind.  I drew sketches and made measurements and headed to Home Depot to get the supplies I didn't already have on hand.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">(4) 1/4 x 4 x 4 poplar boards for battens</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">(1) 1 x 4 pine board for top rail</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">finishing nails</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">white caulk</span></div><br /><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The tops of our baseboards are only 1/4 inch thick so I went with the poplar boards since they were the same thickness.  I did not want to change them out.  I also went with the wider planks for more presence.  I think the lattice boards some suggested were a little wimpy for me.  I had to figure out the spacing for my boards.</span><br /><br /><div since we were only doing a small wall.  We plan to continue the molding around the stairs and into the dining room, so we'll definitely need one then since there will be a lot more boards.  It was easier than the poplar boards.  We made sure to get nails through where there were studs.  Didn't want it to come tumbling down one day. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Mirrors At The Entry
