So this dream residence by Seattle style firm, Replinger Hossner Osolin Architects (RHO), is a departure from our typically a lot more modern aesthetic here at Chictip, but we thought this Green Dream House dubbed South Paw was still worth our attention. South Paw is a waterfront home situated in Seattle where the designers have been able to combine modern day style elements seamlessly with far more standard ones in the areas of both architecture and interior decor. From the side garden, the property appears as a box with best proportions and balance amongst its window and door placements. It also has a concrete wall along the entry that is really part of the garage. It creates an auto court and adds a sense of privacy. When you are squarely in front of the property toward the street, you see that what first seemed like a box in fact seems as though a side wall has been pulled or slid away from the adjoining walls and then reconnected to the property by way of glass. The architects refer to this area as the “slot.” With it they take a a lot more conventional appearing residence and add an unexpected structural and contemporary twist. Yet another interesting and integral design element of this property is that, unlike classic waterfront properties, it has been placed perpendicularly to the shoreline. This certain placement enables for maximum solar exposure for each the interior of the house and what appears to be the side garden, but in reality is the principal entry to the residence. The garage roof also has been covered with solar panels to capitalized on this design and style element and supply electrical energy to the property.

On the interior the blending of modern day and standard components continues in excellent harmony to generate a wonderful eclectic style. The rooms of primary living level sustain an ease of flow and connection through a continuous steel and timber ceiling. The exposed I Beams offer a bit of an industrial feel which is counterbalanced by the antique furnishings and dramatic curtains that are significantly a lot more standard in look. This theme of blending what may possibly initially strike you as disparate designs is well believed via and the residence undoubtedly accomplished a cohesive appearance.

The location to the rear of the property, referred to as the “slot”, overlooks the pool on the lakeside of the residence. The area is ablaze with brilliant light from the abundance of windows that frame the side wall and skylights. I love the workplace that is inside the “slot.” It has windows in front of the desk and a modern bookcase along on wall. It would be the perfect cozy nook in which to operate. I also like the contemporary lighting fixture, it is the sparkling

jewel of the area.

Consultants

Structural Engineers: PCSA Structural Solutions Interior

Style: Viekman Landscape

Architect: Allworth Nusbaum Mechanical

Engineer: Franklin Engineering

Lighting: Keylight + Shadow

Energy Consultant: Ecotope
