Tiny Houses

A few months back my husband made a comment about down sizing.  Huh?  What?  It's funny he said this because I'm always joking about packing up and moving into a bigger house.  You can imagine the confused look on my face when he said this though.  Sure, we did buy a house a little larger than we really needed but we figured we could grow into it.  At the time we purchased it, we only had one kid but knew we were planning on having one more.  Our house is fairly big and on a day to day basis, we don't use every square inch of our house.  Sometimes it is frustrating cleaning four toilets knowing they hadn't even been used over the past week.  He mentioned downsizing because he figures it would be easier to maintain and our expenses would decrease.  Yeah I get it but not going to happen.  We have come to call this place home.

After this conversation, I thought about an episode of HGTV Star where they had to design and decorate an 86 sq ft house.  In this house they had to fit a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living area.  The results were amazing.  This really got me thinking, do people really live in houses this small?  Why, yes they do.

They are called tiny houses.  Tiny houses are pretty small, ranging from 100 sq ft to 500 sq ft.  This is perfect for someone seeking financial freedom and doesn't need a lot of space to live.  In actuality, living in a tiny house decreases your financial obligations because there are minimal expenses with their small footprint.

Even though these houses are small, owners are still packing a lot of style and custom features in them.  After seeing these, you have to ask yourself how much space does a person really need to live?

It's a simple life.  Is bigger really better or are we forced to think that living in today's society?
